Who it's for

Good fit: Avalon and Newport locals who want a coached 45 minute class with a small town team feel, nervous beginners and returners who want to be looked after, parents (kids and teens holiday program), Hyrox curious, anyone who wants a sauna and cold plunge after training, early risers (5, 6 and 7am every weekday)

Not for: Anyone who wants to train alone and be left alone (it is a coached group class where the owners know everyone, the whole culture is team, and partner or team workouts such as Duo and TEMPEST have run here), anyone who needs a class starting after 5:45pm or a lunchtime class on Wed or Fri, open gym or barbell lifting, 24/7 access, a bargain (about $62 a week), Mona Vale residents who won't drive 10 minutes each way

Scores are our opinion after visiting, 1 to 5. Social vibe 1 is quiet and solo, 5 is loud and social.

Month to month unlimited is a monthly autopay that auto renews until you cancel in writing (signed at the studio, not sold online). The 3, 6 and 12 month options are prepaid passes that start on the purchase date and simply expire, not direct debit contracts (capped at 150, 180 and 500 classes). No pause on any plan

Cancelling

30 days written notice before the next billing date on the month to month autopay, so expect one more monthly charge after giving notice. Prepaid passes need no notice, they expire. Cooling off and any minimum term not published. Recovery bookings need 12 hours notice

1 coach per class, cap 36 (27 to 28 on cardio and some hybrid days, 40 Saturday, 15 Hyrox).

What it is

45 min screen led functional HIIT in a coached group class, one F45 workout a day rotating cardio, resistance and hybrid days (50 min at 12:15pm, 60 min Wed 5:45pm and Saturday). Extras: Hyrox Fri 5:45pm, Run Club Wed 5pm, PEAK500, recovery room (infrared sauna, cold plunge, compression). No open gym floor

Coaching: Hands on and encouraging, not hype and not hands off. The owners coach most classes themselves and greet people by name; reviews praise regressions offered, 'understanding when I needed to take a break', 'supportive of everyone no matter what age or physical ability', and the new coach was introduced with 'a keen eye on your technique and those little corrections'. Screens run the stations, the coach walks the floor

Gear: Standard F45 functional kit. Listing photo shows a weighted sled and plates on a turf strip; F45's own studio record says no functional racks, so no barbell lifting. Recovery room: infrared sauna, cold plunge, Hyperice compression boots
